Sanal, often called Serious or Fierce Sanal, is one of the great warriors gathered around Jangar in the epic. His own canto relates a distant campaign in which he overcomes the land of the half-human giants, bringing its people under the sway of Bumba. Steadfast and grave in temper, he stands among the twelve paladins who uphold the ideal kingdom.
