Kiveti, the first woman

Kamba · mortal · Kamba traditional religion; continuing · mortal

Kiveti, whose name is the Kikamba word for 'woman' or 'wife', is the first woman of the Akamba creation story and the wife of Mundu. Fashioned in the sky by Mulungu and lowered with her husband and their cattle to the rock of Nzaui, she shares with him the footprints the Akamba point out on the hill as proof of the tale. As the mother of the heavenly couple's sons she stands at the head of Akamba genealogy, alongside the unnamed pair who emerged from the anthill and founded the spirits' clan (the aimu).
