Bwaxat is remembered as a founding ancestor in the chieftaincy genealogies of the northern Grande Terre, one of the apical figures from whom a clan traces its rooting in a particular valley. As with many such ancestors, the tradition preserves his place at the origin of a lineage more than any developed myth; his name secures the bond between a descent group and its land.
