Pia is the twin brother of Makonaima in the mythic traditions shared by the Kapon (Akawaio and Patamona) and the wider Cariban-speaking peoples of the Guiana Highlands. In the versions recorded by Brett and Roth, the twins are sons of the Sun who benefit humankind by slaying monsters, and Pia in particular becomes the first medicine-man; his name is cognate with the Cariban term piai for the shaman. Because the symmetric twin relationship links him to the previously catalogued Makonaima, the fraternity is documented here in prose rather than as a formal genealogical entry.
