The Sun

Khmu · numen · Khmu traditional religion; continuing · numen

The Sun appears in Khmu celestial storytelling as a personified luminary, ruler of the day and counterpart to the Moon. As with neighbouring upland peoples, Khmu narrative accounts for the ordering of day and night, the courses of the two lights, and their separation, and treats the luminaries as characters who act and are acted upon. The romanization of the name follows the Kammu Yuan system and varies across recordings; the Sun is documented chiefly through such origin tales rather than through a developed cult.
