The wolverine is among the most spiritually charged of the animal-people, a cunning and dangerous character of the Distant Time whose spirit is treated with particular caution. Koyukon narratives and observances mark it as clever, thieving, and formidable out of proportion to its size, and the handling of a trapped wolverine is hedged with special respect and restriction under the hutlaanee system.
