Gudurbay is a Kumyk deity of harvest and fertility whose name is preserved in the autumn Gudurbay rite, performed by young men during the grain harvest who went from gate to gate singing for a rich crop, well-being and a happy life. Comparative study links the name to a family of ritual personages across Turkic and Daghestani communities - Terekemen and Tabasaran Gudil, Derbent Azerbaijani Gudul, Lak Gudi - associated with rain- and sun-calling. Among the Kumyks the figure is bound specifically to the autumn harvest and to the rain-goddess Zemire.
