Jakyp
Kyrgyz · mortal · heroic age · Recorded classification
The wealthy but long-childless herdsman whose desperate prayers for a son open the epic. His joy and anxiety at the birth of a supernatural-seeming child establish the dynastic frame; in Radloff's text he is son of Kara-khan and husband of Chyiyrdy, the mother of Manas.
