Tarlats

Lezgin · deity · Lezgin traditional religion; continuing · deity

Tarlats, also called simply Tar, is the Lezgin god of toil and abundance, a working deity whose name is linked to the word for tree. He belongs among the benevolent gods of the pantheon and personifies the labour of husbandry and the plenty it yields, granting increase to the fields and herds of those who work the mountain land. Like several members of the reconstructed pantheon he survives chiefly as a name and function preserved in ethnographic tradition rather than in an elaborated myth.
