Yaran rush

Lezgin · deity · Lezgin traditional religion; continuing · deity

Yaran rush is the Lezgin goddess of beauty and love, the personified rainbow. She is the daughter of the fire-god Alpan and the nature-goddess Yar, born of their love; her name is read either as 'daughter of Yar' or as 'daughter of the sun.' The spring rainbow that arches over the mountains is understood as Yaran rush herself and as the visible token of her parents' sacred marriage, so that her appearance links the celestial wedding of fire and vegetation to the renewal of the year.
