Lalla Mira is one of the great female spirits (mluk) of the Gnawa possession liturgy, the mistress of the colour saffron. In the all-night ceremony called the līla or derdeba the spirits descend in cohorts marked by colour, incense and melody; Mira arrives in the yellow phase, coaxed by honey and yellow cloth, and takes her possessed in a mood that swings between girlish flirtation and disordered laughter. Because she governs both playful desire and the derangement close to it, she is sought by women in matters of love, fertility and mental unrest. She is counted among the 'Lallas', the ladies of the pantheon, and is called down alongside Lalla Malika and Lalla Mimuna.
