Tuwaang is the culture-hero of the Manuvu ethnoepic bearing his name, sung among the upper Pulangi Manobo and documented by E. Arsenio Manuel. A youth of the settlement of Kuaman endowed with superhuman powers, he journeys on the wind, contends with rival heroes and sky-beings, and figures in narratives such as 'The Maiden of the Buhong Sky' and 'Tuwaang Attends a Wedding.' He mediates between the ordinary world and the realm of the diwata, embodying the Manuvu ideal of the valiant bagani.
