Mabaning is a peerless young warrior of Bembaran and a kinsman of Bantugen, often named as his nephew. His valour is decisive in the expedition to reclaim Bantugen's soul and in the wars of the later cycles. In the Gandingan episodes he is the husband of the princess Lawanen. As with much of the Darangen, kinship details vary from singer to singer.
