Tu (the pan-Polynesian Tu/Ku) is named by Handy among the foremost figures of the Marquesan oral narratives (Native Culture p. 247, in the compound Tiki Tu Kae). One of the great Polynesian atua, associated in the wider tradition with stability and war (Maori Tūmatauenga, Hawaiian Kū).
