Nusku

Nusku is the lamp and the altar flame at once — fire as light to see by and fire as the thing that carries an offering upward. He serves Enlil as sukkal at Nippur, and in Atra-hasis it is Nusku who wakes his master in the night to tell him the junior gods have downed tools and surrounded the house. Incantations against witchcraft call on him: a god of light is the natural power to invoke against things done in the dark.
