Uttu

Uttu weaves, and her sign is the spider. She is the last of the chain of daughters in the myth of Enki and Ninhursag: Enki fathers Ninnisig, then Ninkurra, then — by Ninkurra — Uttu, whom Ninhursag warns, and who demands cucumbers, apples and grapes as a bride-gift before she will have him. The myth ends with Ninhursag intervening. Her sphere is cloth, which in Mesopotamia was the second great industry after grain. She must not be confused with the sun god Utu, who is a different deity with a different sign; both are in this registry.
