Nyohaiva is the heroine of one of the great Mohave dream-sung narratives recorded by Kroeber. Born at Avikwame in the time of creation, she travels through the land, naming places and encountering other beings, and institutes the victory or scalp ceremony and its songs before undergoing her own transformation. Her story belongs to the song-cycles held to be received in dreams and sung over successive nights.
