Pi Bwo is the shape-shifting devouring being of the Mundang origin tale of Ku Tchetche. By day, while her parents farm, it comes to the idle girl and provides her food by singing, conjuring sauce and paste from nothing and teasing her in verse for never grinding flour or fetching water. Discovered by a watchful grandmother and boiled to death in a covered pot, the being, restored or doubled, transforms and swallows the whole population, sparing only the girl it has warned to hide beneath a water jar. Its devouring empties the primordial world so that humanity may be founded anew from the single survivor and the chameleon that joins her.
