Korumtau

Munduruku · demigod · Munduruku traditional religion; continuing · demigod

Korumtau is the son of the creator Karusakaibö and the pivotal child of the peccary-origin myth. Sent to his father's relatives to ask for meat and rebuffed, he takes revenge: he causes their house to fill with feathers, fumigates it, and with a shouted command transforms the ungenerous household into white-lipped peccaries, which are afterwards hunted. His act works together with his father's to stock the forest with large game and to teach the moral duty of sharing meat. Sources render his name both as Korumtau, in the older ethnography, and as Karu Taru in Munduruku-authored retellings.
