Chàng Bồng Hương is the hero of the Mường narrative poem that bears his and Nàng Ờm's names. A poor young man of humble family, he loves the lang's daughter but is rejected by her kin because of his poverty. When the lovers can find no place to be together they flee to Mount Làn Ai and die there side by side. In the enduring memory of the Mường his name is inseparable from Nàng Ờm's as the model of constancy in love.
