Evening Star is the daughter of the Sun and the sky-wife of Asdiwal. She appears to the hunter first as a white she-bear who lures him up the mountain and into the sky-world, where she resumes her woman's form and takes him as husband. When her father the Sun sets a series of murderous ordeals to destroy the mortal intruder, she intervenes to shield and revive him, and it is through her that Asdiwal wins his footing in heaven. She belongs to the celestial household of the Sun and embodies the myth's marriage between an earthly hunter and the powers of the sky.
