Logobola
Nisga'a & Gitxsan · demigod · Nisga'a & Gitxsan traditional religion; continuing · Recorded classification
Logobola, called Lagabula or the 'Lazy One' in contrast to Txamsem the 'Clever One', is the twin-like brother of the Raven-transformer. In the northern versions the two are born together in a kelp patch and adopted into a chief's house near the mouth of the Nass. Their rivalry structures much of the Raven cycle: they gamble and contend over the possession of daylight, of fresh water, and of the fog. Sources credit Logobola with the world's shortage of clear water and with the bank of fog into which Txamsem strayed and was lost, making him the shadow-double whose losses and refusals define, by opposition, the gifts his brother wins for humankind.
