Fox

Nlaka'pamux (Thompson) · numen · Nlaka'pamux (Thompson) traditional religion; continuing · numen

Fox is the brother and constant companion of Coyote in Nlaka'pamux tradition. His defining role is that of reviver: after Coyote is killed through his own folly and his body scattered, Fox finds the remains and, by stepping over them, brings the trickster back to life. This recurring rescue makes Coyote's deaths reversible and allows the transformer cycle to continue, and it echoes the same Fox-and-Coyote pairing found across the Interior Salish peoples.
