Baba Tükti Shashty Aziz, the 'Hairy Saint', is the sanctified forefather of the Manghıt and Nogai princely line and a central figure of the Islamization legends of the Golden Horde. In the conversion story he vindicates Islam by sitting unharmed in a fiery oven; in the epic tradition he weds a peri of the unseen world, and it is from this union that the hero Edige inherits his otherworldly blood. Sources differ on how many generations separate the saint from Edige, so his exact place in the pedigree is told variously, but he is consistently the holy apex from which the whole lineage draws its charisma.
