Andvari
Norse · numen · mythic prehistoric · Recorded classification
A dwarf, a stolen hoard, a ring that destroys whoever holds it, and a curse pronounced by the robbed party: this is the source of the Nibelungen material and, through it, of a very large part of modern fantasy. His German cognate Alberich is not in this registry under any tradition and is named here without being claimed.

Relations
- robbed by: LokiThe robbery and the curse pronounced over it are what the rest of the Volsung cycle is. A non-symmetric kind is used deliberately: the relation runs one way, and calling it enmity would flatter Loki's side of it.Reference treatment of Loki taking Andvari's gold to pay the otter's ransom.
