She is standing there now, in the present tense, for the whole remainder of the mythology until Ragnarök: the Norse have a goddess whose entire function is an unbroken act of care performed for someone everyone else has given up on, and they made her absences the explanation for the ground moving. The registry held Loki, the sons whose guts bind him and the serpent-daughter above him, and not her.
