Kahindo, also called Kahombo, is the Nyanga goddess of good fortune and of the personal luck (kahombo) that determines a person's prosperity. She is the daughter of Muisa, the divinity of the subterranean dead-lands. When Mwindo descends into her father's realm, Kahindo, afflicted and covered with sores, is healed by the hero and in gratitude discloses to him the secret of surviving Muisa's lethal tasks. Her benevolence toward Mwindo makes her the counterpart within the underworld to the hostile powers he must overcome, and in ordinary Nyanga devotion she is invoked for luck and well-being.
