The Thunder is a great power of the sky, counted among the manifestations of Wakonda, that governs storm and is the special patron of war. Fletcher and La Flesche record that warriors appealed to the Thunder, whose voice was said to announce the renewal of life in spring, and that the sacred war pack and its rites stood under its power.
