Thesis

Orphic · deity · Orphic traditional religion; continuing · deity

Thesis is the act of setting-down — the instituting of things, as against the stuff they are made of. She stands at the very beginning of the Orphic cosmogony with Hydros and Mud, and the reference literature reads her as a near-double of Physis, Nature: what is established, and the standing order it establishes. Like the other first principles she has no cult and no story; she is a position in a sequence, and the Orphic poets needed her to be there.
