THE CORPUS HELD BOTH ENDS OF THIS FEUD AND NEITHER OF ITS TWO KILLERS. ossetian_khaemyts is recorded as murdered and ossetian_batraz as his avenger; the man who did the killing, and the man who asked for it, were both absent. The blow that killed Khæmyts is also an etiology: it struck his tooth Arkyz, a chip flew up to the sky, and the moon has been there since.

• Reference treatment of the killing of Xæmyc and its avenging: Xæmyc, who had lost both strength and courage, was killed by Sainag-Aldar and Burafarnyg; the offended Burafarnyg, whose wife (in variants, daughter) and seven daughters-in-law Xæmyc had seduced, did not dare to punish him himself, but turned to Sainag-aldar; Sainag-Aldar stabbed him with a knife (variant, with a sword), which hit Arkyz's tooth, and a piece broke off of it and flew up to the very sky, since when a month has appeared in the sky; the murder of Xæmyc happened when Batraz was still a baby, and when he grew up he brutally took revenge on the Narts for it, wreaking vengeance upon Sainag-Aldar, 'the owner of the black mountain', the killer of his father, and then turning on the Narts themselves, blaming them for his father's death.
