Sid

Punic · demigod · mythic · demigod

Sid Addir, the eponymous hero-god of Punic Sardinia and son of Melqart-Herakles, worshipped at the temple of Antas and interpreted by the Romans as Sardus Pater Babai. Authored as a demigod (son of the god Melqart; eponymous hero). CORRECTION to a common over-claim: although Tanit's cult is widespread in Punic Sardinia, Tanit is NOT specifically attested in cult AT the temple of Antas; she appears only as Sid's reconstructed mother (Tanit/Astarte) in the modern genealogy. The Sid↔Tanit-at-Antas link is therefore NOT wired. The Sardus Pater interpretatio is recorded as an epithet, not a relation (counterpart not in this batch).
