Hơ Âng is the sister of Đăm Săn and the vessel of the epic's cyclical close. After the hero is swallowed in the Black Mud Forest, his soul returns to the world through his sister, whose son bears his name and, by the same matrilineal logic that opened the tale, is destined to marry the sisters Hơ Nhị and Hơ Bhị anew. Through her the story turns back upon itself, so that the death of the hero is not an ending but the renewal of his line, expressing the Ede belief in continuity through the mother's descent.
