Mtao Grứ is one of the two rival war-chiefs whose abduction of Đăm Săn's wife drives the epic's cycle of war. Like Mtao Mxây he raids the hero's house and carries off a wife to his own stronghold, and like him he is hunted down, overcome in single combat and killed, his people and possessions passing to the victor. The two defeated chiefs together establish Đăm Săn as the paramount mtao of the highlands. Sources record his name in several spellings.
