Haua
Rapa Nui · deity · mythic · Recorded classification
Haua (in cult Haua-tu'u-take-take, 'chief of the eggs') is the companion god of Makemake. Together the two are the masters of the sea-bird flocks: they drove the nesting birds to the islets Motu Nui and Motu Iti and, appearing to a priestess, founded the birdman cult and the food-offering set aside 'for Haua, for Makemake!'. He is named among the four gods of the birdman sect, with his wife vi'e Hoa.
