Mortal foster-mother of Romulus and Remus, wife of the shepherd Faustulus; commemorated at Rome in the Larentalia (23 December). Some traditions confuse or merge her with the she-wolf (lupa) and with a later courtesan-benefactress of Rome of the same name.
