Caelus

Caelus is the sky, and almost nothing else. He stands at the head of the Roman divine genealogy — husband of Tellus, father of Saturn, Ops and Janus — which is to say he is a figure the theologians needed rather than one the city worshipped: he notably had no cult in Rome. That absence is itself worth recording, because it marks the difference between the Roman gods who received sacrifice and the Roman gods who existed to make the family tree work.
