Consus

Consus keeps what has been put away. His altar in the Circus Maximus was buried, dug out only for his festival and covered again afterwards — an altar that is itself stored, which is as neat a piece of ritual logic as Roman religion offers. On his day horses and mules were unyoked and garlanded. The Consualia is also where the foundation story puts the seizure of the Sabine women: Romulus advertised games, the neighbours came, and Rome got its wives.
