Honos
Roman · deity · middle republic · deity
Honos is the regard of other people — what the community grants, not what a man feels about himself, which is why he is a god at all in a culture as competitive about reputation as Rome. He shares the Porta Capena complex with Virtus, and the two temples are arranged so that his is reached through hers. Marcellus rebuilt the complex after his victories, and there was a dispute about whether two gods could properly share one cella.
