Laverna

Roman · deity · regal · deity

Laverna is the patron of what is done out of sight. She begins as a goddess of gain with an underworld connection and ends up the protectress of thieves, fugitives and the very poor — the people whose profit has to be invisible. A gate of Rome on the Via Salaria carried her name, and her grove stood outside it. The best-known detail about her cult is that her worshippers prayed aloud for the part of a business that had to look respectable, and moved their lips silently for the rest.
