Limentinus

Limentinus is the threshold, the stone that marks where outside stops. The Romans treated a doorway as three distinct places of danger — leaf, hinge, threshold — and gave each of them a name that could be addressed, which is exactly the habit of mind that produced Robigus for the mildew and Postvorta for the breech birth. Augustine quotes the list to ridicule it; the ridicule is why we have it.
