Vacuna is known mostly from a joke about where a letter was written. Horace signs off Epistles 1.10 from behind Vacuna's crumbling shrine in the Sabine hills, and that ruin is the clearest thing we have about her. She was Sabine; ancient commentators identified her with Victoria, with Diana, with Minerva and with Ceres, which between them amount to an admission that nobody knew. The record keeps the attestation and the uncertainty and adds nothing to either.
