Tairagoni

Rotuman · deity · Rotuman traditional religion; continuing · deity

Tairagoni was a Rotuman sea-god, named in the ethnographic record as the son of the fertility-god Tagaroa. He was personified by the turtle and was held able to render the sea fruitful and safe, so that his marine domain complemented his father's authority over the fertility of the land and people. The turtle through which he manifested was correspondingly treated as a creature of sacred regard.
