Tiurakh

Serer · demigod · primordial · demigod

Tiurakh (also written Thiorak, Théourakh or Tulrakh) is a lesser divinity of the Serer people of Senegal, the Gambia and Mauritania, regarded as the god of wealth and property. Worshippers seeking riches bring him offerings in the forest, where he is believed to dwell in the tallest trees together with his adversary Takhar, the god of justice and vengeance. The pair were first recorded in detail by nineteenth-century French ethnographers of Senegambia and remain the two most frequently named lesser gods of the Serer pantheon under the supreme being Roog.
