Kan-Pergen is the hero of one of the best-known Shor heroic tales, the alyptyg nybak sung by the kaichi to the accompaniment of the two-stringed komus. A superhuman alp of the middle world, he defends his people and land against monstrous invaders and rival heroes and undertakes the quest for a destined bride that structures the genre. Like all Shor epic heroes he is bound to a prescient, speaking warhorse whose name and colour are declared in the tale's own title. His epic was recorded from Shor singers and issued in the scholarly series of folklore monuments of the peoples of Siberia.
