Kviria is the great mediating divinity of the Georgian highlands, a son of the gods who stands between the supreme god Ghmerti and the world of men as intercessor, guardian of human society and instrument of divine justice. In the mountains of western Georgia, among the Svans and their neighbours, he was raised to the rank of a supreme deity in his own right and honoured with festival and song. Among the Svans a ritual song bearing his name, tied to fire and the hearth, was performed in his praise. Bardavelidze set him in a highland holy triad beneath the ordering god Morige Ghmerti, and his cult of orgiastic and communal festival persisted in the mountains into recent times.
