Vajrakīlaya
Tibetan Buddhist · deity · mythic · deity
THE EIGHT HERUKAS (KAGYE) ARE A SERIES AND ARE NOT INGESTED AS A SET; Vajrakilaya is ingested because the source gives him an act and an emanation-relation of his own, which is the test that admitted Dipamkara in lane 26. A YIDAM IS NOT A GOD THE PRACTITIONER PETITIONS; IT IS A FORM THE PRACTITIONER TAKES. The schema's vocabulary has no category for that, so type is deity because it is the nearest one available, and the record says so rather than letting the field make the claim. Lane 26 escalated this; nothing is decided here.

- Reference treatment of the three root protectors of the Nyingma school - Rahula, Ekajati and Dorje Legpa - who function as its essential protectors: Ekajati safeguards the mantras of the Buddha, that is the speech of the Buddha; Rahula secures the wisdom revelations, the mind of the Buddha; and Dorje Legpa protects the termas, the body of the Buddha; the Three Roots of Nyingma and Kagyu literature are the lama, the yidam and the protector, who may be a khandroma (dakini) or a dharmapala; Vajrakilaya is honoured as one of the Eight Heruka deities of the Nyingma school and as a fierce emanation of Vajrasattva, representing the pure untainted mind of all buddhas.
