Aicüna is the second of the two primordial sisters, born from the left knee of Ngutapa together with the younger hero Ipi. Like her sister Mowatcha she appears at the instant of her birth already occupied with women's textile labour, weaving a net while the brothers ready blowgun and bow, so that the four-fold emergence from the knees sets out the complementary crafts of men and women at the beginning of the world. She figures in the astronomical and ritual traditions recorded for the Tikuna, where the primordial sisters are woven into the imagery of the girls' initiation and its stars.
