Kimat

Tinguian · deity · mythic prehistoric · deity

Kimat is the lightning, personified in Tinguian belief as the dog of the great sky-spirit Kadaklan, as recorded by Fay-Cooper Cole. It is the instrument by which Kadaklan communicates his will: Kimat 'will bite a house, a tree, or a field whenever the divine master desires that a special ceremony be performed,' so that a lightning-strike marks the spot where a rite must be held. (Modern fantasy and role-playing treatments embellish Kimat with invented physical traits; only its identity as Kadaklan's lightning-dog and its ceremony-summoning bite are attested in Cole.)
