Makaboteng ('one who frightens'), also called Sanadan, is the Tinguian (Itneg) guardian spirit of the deer and the wild hogs, as recorded by Fay-Cooper Cole. Because his good will is necessary if the hunting dogs are to succeed in the chase, he is summoned to many ceremonies, where he is treated with the greatest courtesy. Cole attests no kin, spouse, or peer relation for Makaboteng.
