Pinakurs, recorded by Rivers as Pinârkûrs, is the divine wife of On. In the Toda creation account she goes with On to the Kundah hills, where they set an iron bar from one end to the other; standing at the far end, Pinakurs draws the ordinary buffalo out of the earth while On draws forth the sacred buffalo. She thus shares directly in the originating act by which the Toda received their herds, and is remembered chiefly as the consort of the lord of the dead.
